IAFP's Fourth European
Symposium on Food Safety
19–21 November 2008
Lisbon, Portugal
In collaboration with ILSI Europe, the Society for Applied Microbiology and the
World Health Organization. With the technical cooperation of the
Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations.
The International Association for Food Protection (IAFP), which was founded in
1911, is a non-profit association dedicated to advancing food safety worldwide.
Its mission is "To provide food safety professionals worldwide with a forum to
exchange information on protecting the food supply." With about 3,200 members
from 50 nations around the world. IAFP has a global presence, though most of its
activities have been visible in North America, at least until some years ago.
In order to spread its activities more truly internationally, IAFP has been piloting
symposia in Europe over the last three years and successfully helped to organise a
conference in China last year. With a continuation of the China conference and a
first ever IAFP symposium in Latin America held in May of 2008, IAFP truly makes
an effort to reach out to food safety professionals around the world.
IAFP has committed to hold a yearly event in Europe after organising
successful symposia in Prague, Barcelona and Rome over the past
three years. Dedicated to providing sound, quality programming
for members and professional colleagues, IAFP has designed its
European symposium to provide attendees with important insights
in key advancements in food safety; examples include presentations
related to the assessment and enumeration of hazards, food safety
management and control, and emerging hazards.
This year’s symposium will be held in Lisbon, Portugal, from 19-21 November, and
will feature a mix of speakers from government, academia and industry from across
Europe and from other parts of the world. Well-established experts have committed
to present their experiences and views at this symposium. They are evidence
of IAFP’s well-respected status, which is partly based on its ability to offer a
professional and open forum for discussions and networking.
Next to invited oral presentations, there will be an opportunity for those interested
to offer poster presentations, enabling all participants to show-case their own work
and closely interact with the audience.
So, make sure you attend and actively engage with the symposium topics and of
course with IAFP! Once you appreciate how IAFP works, you will see that it can
be a way for you to foster regular interactions with peers from around the world.
IAFP will help you to learn and will encourage you to share your own experiences.
So come to Lisbon and join with colleagues to explore recent Advancements in
Food Safety” during IAFP’s Fourth European Symposium on Food Safety!
